I find myself wide awake tonight lost in the preparations for my birthday, while taking a mental break to wish you would be here to celebrate. It’s your birthday month too and I miss sharing that with you. The realization of this year was bittersweet as we’d most likely be throwing a huge 50th Birthday party for you. Hopefully surprising you a lot better than your retirement party, hahaha! I can only imagine what kind of celebration it might’ve been. So yeah, it makes me sad that we didn’t get to spend this birthday together, but I’m still reflective on the last two birthdays I got to spend with you in the land of paradise, Hawaii. It was an odd time as you were changing right before my eyes, but you never forgot our birthdays. Like many others who have lost someone, I share the wish of just one more party, one more laugh (at the corny jokes too), and one more hug. Or even just on special days we get to visit and chat for a while. I think about you all the time Daddy, wishing you were still a phone call away. I see our Facebook memories and read through our text threads often, realizing we really were the best of friends. You’d tag me in every dog video there was. Well, I want you to know if you don’t already, considering I’m constantly talking to you, that I hold on tight to all of our things and cherish every memory that comes to mind. I find you in me every day so I know that a part of your spirit lives on through me, as you're now the twinkle in my eye, just as I was yours. As I get older and one day have kids of my own, I hope to pass on your memory and love. Sometimes I’m sad that they won’t have that opportunity, but I look forward to passing on your legacy. So old man, Happy 50th Birthday - I'm sure you feasted at a buffet fit for a King to celebrate your day. As always, you are loved and you are missed.
